Bald cypress have scale-like or needle-like leaves that resemble conifer foliage. They also have flat or peltate cone scales, with each scale producing 2 to 9 seeds. These trees grow in moist areas, commonly in swamps and wetlands.
Grains are generally spheroidal and 1-aperturate. The sexine is microverrucate and the intine is thickened. Taxodiaceae grains resemble those of Cupressaceae, except they are slightly larger and have papillate apertures.
Grains are 28-36 micrometers in diameter.
